From the creatives who delivered the lush, opulent "The Tudors" to Showtime comes "The Borgias," a period drama for smallscreen about the Renaissance Italian family that made a mark on history.
"The Borgias" were a powerful and corrupt 15th-century Italian family that dominated European politics for the time. The location of the series is Hungary, shooting this summer before it debuts in 2011 on Showtime and CTV in Canada.
Actors David Oakes and Holliday Grainger join 'Borgias.' It was previously announced at the winter TCA's that Jeremy Irons was cast as Rodrigo Borgia for the Showtime drama premiering in 2011
Oakes and Grainger are to perform a brother-sister role in the series. Oakes is to play Juan Borgia, while Grainger is cast in the role of Lucrezia Borgia.
Showtime confirms that the two British actors join Irons, Colm Feore, Derek Jacobi as Cardinal Orsini in the first two episodes, and Francois Arnaud.
The Michael Hirst-produced event is a Canadian-U.K. co-production.
