The MTV Movie Awards had highs and lows, and was shepherded by comic actor and former MTV "Human Giant" alum Aziz Ansari.
Ansari lambasted arch eco-villain BP in song, and Oscar winning actress Sandra Bullock emerged from the shadows of scorned spouse exile and asked her fans to stop pitying her, by way of an awkward scripted smooch with her "Proposal" co-star's wife (Scarlett Johansson).
Bullock closed her moment with something her Tinseltown peers for the most part have been silent about, to pray for the people in the Gulf area affected by the massive oil spill that continues to wreak havoc on so many lives.
No big Hollywood fundraisers or "do good" video campaigns for our Gulf Coast Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida and Texas pals. Or for the Tennessee flood victims either.
The night revealed that when Tom Cruise, once the top of the A-list heap of actors, hits a home run with a character, it has legs.
Cruise as Les Grossman, a caricature of a Jewish Hollywood agent/manager/entertainment attorney type borrowed from "Tropic Thunder," was in fine form ordering "Best WTF Moment" nominee Ken Jeong and fellow "Hangover" star Ed Helms off stage while they performed "Stu's Song," where Jeong wore a revealing leopard-print leotard.
An enraged Les Grossman (Cruise) ordered them to scram for his own booty shaking number with J-Lo.
The Coca Cola corporation must love the Diet Coke swilling Les.
Bullock's moment accepting the Generation Award was perfected by her friend and costar Betty White, who quipped she should never wear her dress backwards. The two women are the most beloved actresses in America, it seems.
The moment that faltered was Christina Aguilera, whose stage performance was a cluttered, unimaginative attempt at entertaining. Her performance was viewed by a few teenagers who watched the awards with me, asking each other, "isn't she a mother now?" When pop stars like Spears and Aguilera venture into adulthood by becoming parents, it's a word to the wise to evolve one's poptart persona. Gwen Stefani has managed to do this in very subtle ways.
Sister site Spike TV had their own award show, taped the night before at the Sony lot. Here's Sandra Bullock accepting Entertainer Of The Year from last night's taping of Spike TV's "Guys Choice." The award was presented to her by Robert Downey Jr and the troops.
Spike TV's "Guys Choice" airs on Sunday, June 20 @ 10 pm et/pt

Sweet moment of the MTV Awards was "Hangover" star Ken Jeong, the irate Korean crime boss Mr. Chow, who thanked those who made him a name in Hollywood.
When Jeong later won the Best WTF Moment award for his famous "Hangover" scene where he emerges from the trunk of a car completely naked.
"Me and my penis would love to thank MTV and the voters," Jeong joked. "This is quite an honor."
Jeong thanked many and revealed his worries for his wife Tran's recent battle with breast cancer.
"Todd and Bradley Cooper, a good friend of mine, actually helped me through a really difficult time when my wife Tran was going through breast cancer treatment," a visibly emotional Jeong said. "The reason why I [appeared in 'The Hangover'] is that she taught me that life is short, so don't be afraid to take chances."
Jeong's wife Tran has now been cancer-free for two years.
Not leaving on a sad note, Jeong then channeled Mr. Chow and told the MTV audience, "Thank you, motherf***ers!"
