Brittany Murphy's husband Simon Monjack, dead at 39

The late Brittany Murphy's husband was found dead by his mother-in-law Sunday at the Los Angeles home, the coroner's office said.

Simon Monjack's death was reported as a possible heart attack and appeared to be from natural causes, Los Angeles County Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said. Monjack was 39.

Simon's body was discovered by Brittany's mother as being unresponsive in the master bedroom of the Hollywood Hills home at about 9:40 p.m. Sunday.

There were no signs of foul play or physical injury to his body, according to initial police reports.

Prescription medications belonging to Monjack were found in his bedroom. An autopsy is planned Tuesday, but a final cause of death would await results of planned toxicology tests, according to police.

Murphy died last Dec. 20 after her mother found her collapsed in the shower.

Monjack married Murphy in 2007. He produced and co-wrote the 2001 film "Two Days, Nine Lives" and was executive producer of the 2006's "Factory Girl."

At the time of Murphy's death, investigators found numerous prescription medications in her home, but an autopsy found no evidence that Murphy abused drugs.
