NBC adds five new comedies, seven new dramas and one new reality show to the mix. NBC is also under threat of a strike from the Local 11 over failed contract negotiations.
The news was revealed by THR's James Hibberd, who apparently is persona non grata per Deadline Hollywood over his rehearsal crashing in New York. Maybe NBC should take out their ire on their security people instead of a reporter.
In a press release distributed May 15, National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians revealed a new website – http://NBCFallLuneup.com – which shows what the NBC schedule could look like if the network doesn’t renew its contract with the union that represents nearly 3,000 of NBC’s workers, including technicians and news writers, right before their crucial upfronts presentations.
National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians (NABET-CWA) Local 11 president Ed McEwan said in the release that members across the country are angry about stalled negotiations for a new contract and the union has created the website to make sure advertisers know what they’re dealing with.
“The upfronts are about promoting NBC's new seasons. By jeopardizing the careers of thousands of talented men and women across the country with damaging company proposals, there might not be a new season that NBC can be proud of”,” said McEwan. “Senior NBC executives need to recognize this and tell their negotiators to come back with a fair deal for everyone.”
NABET-CWA’s prior contract expired fourteen months ago on March 31, 2009, and despite nearly twenty months of negotiations, there has not been enough progress to ink a new deal. In particular, the NABET-CWA negotiating team believes management has continued to ignore the concerns of the union’s membership.
Despite the problems with their union and intrepid journalists, NBC is set to announce a 2010-2011 primetime sked on Monday bursting at the seams with new fare.
NBC's new deal includes drama blocks on Mondays and Wednesdays and the return of its Thursday comedy lineup as "Parks and Recreation" has been held for midseason.
The anticipated J.J. Abrams drama "Undercovers" kicks off Wednesdays at 8 p.m., while "Law & Order: SVU" that night to launch "Law and Order: Los Angeles."
NBC will launch new comedy "Outsourced" behind "The Office" on Thursdays, and lead into "Love Bites" at 10 p.m.
Mondays will include new dramas "The Event" and "Chase" along with returnee "Chuck."
Tuesday sees "The Biggest Loser" continue to air prior to "Parenthood" at 10 p.m.
NBC's new fare balance sheet will wait until midseason. including the new series "The Cape," "Friends With Benefits," "Perfect Couples," "Harry's Law" and "The Paul Reiser Show" (formerly "Next"), all of which will premiere later in the season along with a new version of "The Apprentice," "The Marriage Ref" and the new series "America's Next Great Restaurant" with another Food Network poaching: celebrity chef/restaurateur Bobby Flay. Food Network's Guy Fieri is on NBC for "Minute to Win It."
