As much as Simon Cowell and I share our love ol' Blue Eyes, the king of swagger and lyric, the show last night, Frank Sinatra Night was a dull affair. It had none of the impact or feel of anything remotely Sinatra except for Mike Lynche wearing a fedora.
Crystal Bowersox, the favored female, never looked better. Hair, makeup and wardrobe came together in a perfect storm of BINGO to clean up this dreadlocked mama who probably is more comfortable in Birkenstocks.
And Harry Connick Jr.!
I forgot how funny he was, and I miss seeing him act too. He was an entertaining mentor and was interesting to watch as he detailed specific performance notes to each person.
The crooner vibe was enacted by Lee DeWyze, finally coming into his own as he benefited the most from Connick's tutelage.
Not my favorite version of "That's Life" but still a good rendition, the judges loved it.
They loved Lynche too for The Way You Look Tonight.
Aaron Kelly did a good job, considering he is 16! You have to remember that fact every time he performs.
Which brings us to Casey James, performing without his guitar. He is the anti-Sinatra, the Golden boy who is the antithesis of anything and everything Rat Pack. If Dean Martin and Peter Lawford were alive they'd tag team smacking him up for that Blue Skies travesty.
Who is leaving?
First person who guesses correctly and follows me to Tweet their answer @AprilMac will win an awesome surprise gift, and the winner will be announced here after tonight's result show. April MacIntyre on Twitter
