TNT is betting on "Southland" for another season.
The stylish cop drama shot in Los Angeles will be back in January for a 10-episode third season.
Speaking to Variety, Michael Wright, executive VP of programming for TNT, TBS and TCM, said the ratings combined with the quality of ensemble and production cinched the deal.
"The ratings were not terrible, nor were they fantastic," Wright told Variety . "But this is an excellent TV show -- expertly written, directed, produced and acted and it is a perfect fit with the TNT brand and the rest of our lineup."
"Southland" came to TNT after being canceled by NBC just a few weeks before its second season was to debut. TNT relaunched the show in January, starting with the first-season episodes that aired last spring on NBC followed by six new episodes.
The series is the story of a rookie patrol cop (Ben McKenzie), who is schooled by his street-wise partner (Michael Cudlitz). Also cast in the series are Regina King, Kevin Alejandro, Arija Bareikis, Shawn Hatosy, Michael McGrady and Tom Everett Scott.
