It wasn't just me that felt tonight's "American Idol" was a colossal snoozer. Fellow TV writer friends tweeted and texted mutual boredom over the group doing some very big songs rather blandly.

And then came Crystal, with her funky mic stand and her goddess dress, who did a pure and powerful rendition of “People Get Ready” sans guitar.

She was so emotional she broke down in the last lines of the song.  A daddy's girl, she wept because after all this whirlwind fame after playing in subways and such, the one man who has know her struggles, her sacrifices and life setbacks was there in reaching distance to tell her no matter what happens in this personally intrusive competition, she was the best.

Tonight also revealed that the ballyhooed tension between Seacrest and Crystal Bowersox seemed to have been glossed over. They acted as if nothing happened, and that Seacrest did not milk her weak moment for press last week.

Bowersox closed the show with what Simon Cowell categorized as “a moment,” and had set herself (once again) well past her peers.

“Mama Sox...you know why they call you that? Because you schooled all the other contestants,” a pithy Kara DioGuardi laid on her, to smiles from Cowell.

Also good was Lee Dewyze who sang Simon and Garfunkel’s “The Boxer,” not his best but he is a monster talent and worthy of fame and fortune.

Casey James did a version of “Don’t Stop” by Fleetwood Mac. Lee can sing circles around him.  Michael Lynche belted “Hero,” which was all right.  Tim Urban was just dreadful and has a freakish forced smile every time anyone addresses him.

My Cape Cod homie Siobhan Magnus is so pretty and talented, can't someone help her with music selection? She needs a better song picker.

What did you make of this show?
