Robin Hood comes once again to the smallscreen courtesy of Ridley Scott.
The mercenary of English folklore is one of history's most prolific folk heroes. But the image of a hero in tights and a feathered cap is a somewhat recent addition to the myth. In truth, Robin Hood is a composite of several historical figures whose exploits date back to the age of the Crusades.
In the upcoming Universal Pictures film Robin Hood, starring Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett, director Ridley Scott’s production is based on some of the most solid and recent historical research into the character and promises a startlingly fresh interpretation of Robin Hood for a new generation.
Coinciding with the May 14 movie release of "Robin Hood," Scott’s latest Robin Hood project, The Real Robin Hood, a two-hour History special is set to premiere on Tuesday, May 11 at 8pm ET.
The TV effort will reveal historical evidence and debunk popular Hollywood fiction, and seek to create a realistic portrait of the mythical hero – revealing the fascinating history behind the man and the creation of his legend. The special will include clips from the film as well as interviews with director Ridley Scott, principal Robin Hood cast members and renowned historians.
Scott Free Productions is producing. Carl H. Lindahl is Executive Producer for History. Executive Producers for Scott Free are David W. Zucker, Mary Lisio, Ridley Scott and Tony Scott.
