Animal Planet star Captain Paul Watson is still on his mission, to patrol the seas for those who illegally hunt sea mammals.
Skipper of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society's anti-whaling vessel 'Steve Irwin' Paul Watson (C) speaks to the media on his return to the Western Australian port of Fremantle for repairs and refuelling after spending time chasing Japanese whalers in the Southern Ocean, 28 January 2010. The ship also brought the crew of the Ady Gil back to Australia after their smalll craft was sunk in a confrontation with the Japanese vessel the Shonan Maru No.2. EPA/TONY MCDONOUGH
For 30 years, Captain Watson has run the most active marine protection non-profit organization — Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. Paul Watson's career as a master mariner began in 1968 as a seaman with the merchant marines and with the Canadian Coast Guard. Watson majored in communications and linguistics at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia .
In the seventies, Watson served as first officer on all Greenpeace voyages, and on a campaign against Russian whalers, he implemented his idea of putting activists in a zodiac between the harpoon and the whale. Watson has saved and protected the slaughter of harp seals on the ice floes of eastern Canada too.
In 1977, Watson founded Sea Shepherd Conservation Society — dedicated to research, investigation , and the enforcement of laws, treaties, resolutions, and regulations established to protect marine wildlife and their habitats worldwide.
Capt. Watson has sent Monsters and Critics an update from the Sea Shepherd regarding Captain Peter Bethune as well as Operation Waltzing Matilda logbooks, which were confiscated upon arriving to port in Hobart, Tasmania.
He also praises the California volunteers whose peaceful protest ended one rogue US-based restaurant that thought it was okay to serve illegal whale meat to its customers.
Capt. Watson is asking those who support his cause to help Captain Bethune, who defended the whales and still remains in detention in Tokyo, Japan.

Capt. Watson also shared with M&C an update from the Australian Federal Police actions regarding the return of the Sea Shepherd's Logbooks
On March 11th, the Australian Federal Police returned the logbooks for the Steve Irwin and the Bob Barker. The logbooks record the ships' movements, crew lists, weather, and other significant incidents occurring while at sea.
No arrests have been made following the raid on the two ships, which was based on a request by the Japanese government.

Also noted in Capt. Watson's update was news on the Sea Shepherd and bluefin tuna fight.
Watson's CEO, Steve Roest, "is fired up about the plight of the bluefin tuna and wants to share some shocking facts with you." Learn about the status of the bluefin tuna and what preparations we are making to defend them.
The biggest news of the week was the closing of a restaurant that served whale meat. The Sea Shepherd busts the "Hump" in Santa Monica, California
In a clear violation of US federal law, Santa Monica restaurant "The Hump," was serving sei whale meat to its patrons. Thanks to Sea Shepherd Outreach Coordinator and lead singer of Pennywise, Zoli Teglas, and many others for their undercover operation, because "The Hump" just got busted and closed their doors.
Capt. Watson writes, "Seeing what a few onshore volunteers could do in Santa Monica reminds me of what Margaret Meade said, 'Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.' "
"This meaningful statement has been the driving force behind what we do at Sea Shepherd and I thank-you for being part of these efforts. The dedication and care of our donors and volunteers is powerful indeed," added Capt. Watson. For the oceans,
