Showrunner Shonda Rhimes' long running medical drama is now Izzy-less as actress Katherine Heigl is moving on.
Katherine Heigl has been a fixture on Grey's Anatomy since the show's inception in 2005.
Rhimes, has agreed to release Heigl from her contract; a final exit agreement still needs to be worked out.
Heigl was on leave due to obligations for her growing film career as well as her newly- adopted daughter, Naleigh, but was scheduled to resume shooting episodes March 1.
EW.com reported that the actress never appeared at the studio on or after that date and she may end up not shooting any additional episodes.
Back in 2008, Heigl was the subject of negative press critical of her remarks over the length of a TV production workday and of her published comments excusing herself from Emmy consideration because it was "not deserved."
