Sacha Baron Cohen fans will not get to see the tall satirist spoof on James Cameron and Avatar for the upcoming Oscar telecast.
People are wise to the outrageous comedic faux moments that Cohen has perfected, and the Academy Awards isn't risking it.
Cohen tricked average and famous people alike first in his HBO comedy series "Da Ali G Show" where he pulled the leg of famous people and unwary politicians. Then came the film, 'Borat' and its evil gay twin 'Bruno.'
Recently Sacha and Eminem cooked up a staged bum-in-face moment with Cohen as airborne Bruno and Eminem sitting in his seat at an MTV award show, as Bruno was lowered bare-bottomed right into his face.
The unpredictable nature of Cohen's performances combines with the fact James Cameron is not one for jokes being played at his expense equals a no go for Cohen's comedy plans.
New York Magazine's Vulture blog reports exclusively that "some jokes directed at 'Avatar' director James Cameron, and the show's producers didn't want to insult the man behind the biggest movie ever."
According to the Vulture bloggers, Cohen was announced as an Oscar presenter just last week, and he made plans to craft a skit with fellow funnyman Ben Stiller. Show producer Bill Mechanic, put the brakes on it.
Cohen's skit reportedly involved him dressing in a blue 'Avatar' female Na'vi costume, with Stiller serving as translator. It ended with Baron Cohen showing everyone that he/she is pregnant ... with James Cameron's baby.
"Let's just say that Cameron isn't known to be, shall we say, 'self-deprecating,'" a Vulture insider said.
Due to the creative differences between Cohen and Mechanic, the comic may stay in London and skip the awards altogether, claims Vulture.
