David Milch, Michael Mann, Dennis Farina and Dustin Hoffman add up to a new hotly anticipated HBO pilot going into production this spring.
The Hollywood Reporter writes that Dustin Hoffman and Dennis Farina will star in HBO's horse-racing drama pilot "Luck."
The scene is set against horse racing, colored by the characters that inhabit the world of the racetrack. The project features a motley cast brought to life by director Michael Mann ("Miami Vice") and writer David Milch ("NYPD Blue").
Hoffman is cast as Ace Bernstein, described by THR as "an intelligent, intuitive and tough man who has always been involved with gambling, from bookmaking and money laundering through casino operations."
His partner in crime is Gus Economou, played by Dennis Farina.
Turo Escalante, played by John Ortiz, is described as "a successful trainer with sordid reputation."
