American Idol 24, as Kara morphs into Paula's persona UPDATE

Last night, the final winnowing of the herd took place and the remainder 17 slots were filled, 12 boys, 12 girls, as we suffered through endless maudlin backstories on everybody's tough road to hoe, with some of the dismissed begging for their lives.  Not pretty.Often times sad, but overwhelmingly mawkish at times.

The moment that took the cake was when Kara DioGuardi rushed over to Angela and knelt at her feet gently delivering the "you're outta here" speech but trying so hard to put a positive spin on it.  The moment was forced, awkward and downright overkill.

Now we have our 12 Girls set to take the stage Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 8/7c on FOX & the 12 Boys set to take the stage Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 8/7c on FOX.

On Tuesday, Feb. 23 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed), the 12 female semifinalists take the Idol stage for the first time to perform live for the judges and for the nation.

After the performances, America will vote, and on the first LIVE results show airing Thursday, Feb. 25 (8:00-9:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) four semifinalists – two girls and two boys – will be eliminated from the competition and sent home.

The 12 boys: From FOX: * "It has been determined that Chris Golightly is ineligible to continue in the competition," read a statement from Fox. " 'American Idol' contestant Tim Urban has replaced Golightly as part of the Top 24."
