CNN is suffering in popularity, coming in last place or close to it, as the right-leaning FOX news broadcasts continue to dominate in the ratings.
Ali Velshi, who was dubbed the "bald prophet of doom" by Daily Show host Jon Stewart, was pranked on the air yesterday by a caller who worked in his salute to Howard Stern.
During a report on the blizzard situation at Newark airport, Velshi piped in "Gene Lasker" from the New Jersey Emergency Management on the phone.
Lasker began with normal-sounding updates before he advised everyone that "today is a day to just sit in your homes and contemplate Howard Stern on 'American Idol'."
The CNN host laughed and sallied forth, oblivious he had been had.
The prankster, still amazed he hadn't been dumped, said: "You're a dumb ass. You don't know this is a prank call?"
A good-natured Velshi took it in stride: "You got us, Gene. Very good."
