Move over Larry King, TV personality and ex newspaper editor Piers Morgan is poised to become the premiere interviewer of celebrities and political figures.
Mr. Morgan is making news for his revealing interview with PM Gordon Brown, who shared personal details about his children's struggles, including the death of his daughter Jennifer, who was born prematurely and weighed just 2lb 4oz.. The baby, just ten days old, died in the arms of her parents at Edinburgh's Royal Infirmary. Mr. Brown also expressed fear for his young son Fraser's well-being. The child is afflicted with cystic fibrosis.
Americans know Mr. Morgan as the winner of "Celebrity Apprentice" with his friend and show host Donald Trump, and as the affable judge in the hit UK series, "Britain's Got Talent," and sister show, "America's Got Talent."
Unlike so many of his British peers who dominate the USA television landscape, Mr. Morgan takes a more refined discourse with contestants, and refrains from profanity-laced tirades (Gordon Ramsay) and pained personal barbs (Simon Cowell).
Now ITV and Piers Morgan have created Piers Morgan's Life Stories, which features the tall reality TV star in a new role, one of serious interviewer.
So far, the early word is that Mr. Morgan has a knack for getting to the untold story and the heart of his subject's hidden past life and painful topics.
Mr. Morgan's newsworthy interview with Mr. Brown also shed light on battles Mr. Brown had with ex PM Tony Blair. According to the Daily_Mail, Mr. Morgan's interview with Gordon Brown also features side interviews with Mr. Brown's wife Sarah Brown, the Prime Minister's two brothers John and Andrew, as well as Tony Blair and Peter Mandelson.
It was previously reported that Mr. Morgan had taped an interview with the UK tabloid queen Katie Price - aka Jordan - who wept when she revealed she had been raped as a teen to Mr. Morgan on his program.
The Daily Mail notes that Welsh classical singer Katherine Jenkins also cried when she recalled how she was nearly raped as student. Sixties pop star and TV host Cilla Black also was reduced to tears when recounting to Mr. Morgan the death of Ellen, her premature baby.
So far no announcement has been made regarding a US air date for Piers Morgan's new talk show.
