One of the bigger hit comedies in recent years, "Ugly Betty" on ABC, garnered critical raves and heaped success on the star of the series, America Ferrara.
It was a feather in the cap of EP, Salma Hayek, who collaborated with creator Silvio Horto to take "Yo Soy Betty La Fea," his huge hit in Colombia, and adapt it for American audiences.
But fourth season was the death knell for the quirky comedy that placed plain Jane Betty at the center of the glammy office action.
America Ferrera became an overnight star in 2006 when the series hit the air. The series will wrap after the current fourth season, which will end with a 20th episode due in mid-April, according to Variety.
The show for now will continue to air Wednesdays at 10 ET/PT.
"We've mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty's final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion," says ABC chief Steve McPherson in a statement. "We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell."
