Yesterday (Jan. 14) at the Television Critics' Association winter press tour, TLC''s fashionista duo of Stacy London and Clinton Kelly gave a room full of TV writers the what-for and warned them they could face their "fashion don't" critique if they weren't careful.
Tonight on TLC, the two are faced with Leanne, a witch and psychic who uses her all-black flowy wardrobe as an emotional armor to protect herself from the world.
Clinton and Stacy London are on a mission, to elevate everyone's game and turn out well-dressed and prepared combatants for life. More than just delivering a chic wardrobe, “What Not to Wear” brings home how all of us get mired in bad habits and wrong ideas about clothing.
The series will hit its 250th episode mark on Jan. 29.
The two revealed they put in an hour of work with a crew of 20 in tow to produce one televised hour you see on the air.
“A lot of people don’t realize is that on that second day of shopping, when Stacy and I show up … we spend the entire day shopping with them all over New York,” Kelly said.
Like the reality TV series "Clean House," people tend to neglect themselves for reasons more than time or money issues. Hoarding and denial of actually seeing oneself as others do reflects hidden psychological issues.
“It's a metaphor,” London said at the TCA panel. “It’s not just about the clothes. It’s never just about the exterior...when you’re not feeling great about yourself it’s the first thing to go. It’s also the first thing you can pick up when you decide you want to take control of your life again. It’s a very easy, very visceral way to see a quick change. “
Clinton summed it up regarding accepting who you are in the moment. "When you enter your thirties, you have to stop being a trend 'ho."
"The clothes that you put on your body reflect how you expect the world to treat you," added Clinton Kelly.
Tonight @ 9pm / 8c on TLC
