Trainwreck reality TV doesn't get much bigger than the TLC effort, "One Big Happy Family."
This is a 16 year-old boy being tested - Obesity is a worldwide issue, but especially in the United States where figures continue to climb...EPA/DIEGO AZUBEL
The series should really be titled, "The Day The Barcalounger Screamed 'No More'" or "Please PLEASE Don't Step On My Foot," or something along those lines.
Really super huge people are just popping up everywhere, including on my TV. The other night I happened on Discovery Health's "Half Ton Teen" where a sad bastard Houston teen named "Billy" was having his giant man boob lifted by his mom for a scrub down, because he weighed in at over 800 pounds and couldn't even squeeze in a bathroom to do this himself.
Billy's mom then proceeded to the local Food King, producers and cameras in tow, to buy a cart full of Doritos, Pop Tarts, and a half a cow, all the while ringing her hands at her self-imprisoned son who can't say no to a triple helping of crap served up by dear ol' ma.
So now we have the Coles, described as "fat and happy," all together celebrating their "close knit bonds" and amazingly durable toilet seats that can take the abuse of four people each weighing in at OVER 300 pounds.
Meet the Coles: Dad is a 40-year-old 340-pounder, then there is his 400 pound wife; and their two children, a teenage boy and girl who weigh in at around 340 pounds a piece.
What furniture can support this weight over and again? How do they properly clean themselves? What the hell are they eating and how frequently?
TLC will possibly have the answers to these burning questions.
Just watching the Coles eating a stack of pancakes, bacon and THEN moving on to deep-fried funnel cake all before lunch in one day in the video below would make that "Biggest Loser" trainer Jillian's head explode if she were within range.
There is a sadness that comes over me when I watch this show, and I wonder, what ever happened to shame in this country?
Along with common sense and self-respect.
