Time for a little Boom de Yada again.
Discovery Channel has hit the refresh button and invited viewers to tap into their inner joy and comedic senses to deliver more Boom de Yada to the world via their network ad spots.
Discovery Channel’s “The World is Just Awesome,” LINK - set to the music of the old campfire song, “I Love the Mountains,” hits the #1 non-fiction network Sunday, November 8 at 10 PM (ET/PT) during an all new episode of Storm Chasers.
Featured in the new spots are familiar stars of Discovery Channel’s hit series singing along in very familiar surroundings, including:
Captains Sig Hansen, Phil Harris, Johnathan and Andy Hillstrand and Keith Colburn of Deadliest Catch hauling off crab pots;
Dirty Jobs host and my secret husband Mike Rowe busting throw muck and dirt;
Mythbusters Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman mischievously experimenting at M5;
Storm Chasers' Reed Timmer racing toward the eye of a tornado;
Ben Bailey host of the Emmy® award-winning Cash Cab cruising Times Square;
Survivorman's Les Stroud wading waist deep in swamp waters;
extreme sports fisherman Man Vs Fish's Matt Watson diving on top of a marlin.
In addition to Discovery Channel talent, the new spot includes personalities and places that illustrate the wonders of the world including sixteen year old Zac Sunderland, the youngest person to circumnavigate the world; Dean Kamen, the inventor of the Segway; the Transformers and Europe’s massive Hadron Collider, the largest and highest energy particle accelerator.
In addition to newsmakers and noteworthy places, the fourth graders of Miami Elementary School in Clinton Township, Michigan make an appearance with their own homegrown version of “Boom de Yada.”
With the refreshed spot viewers will also be invited to go online at: here and create their own version putting content they film themselves to a choice of five “Boom de Yada” soundtracks: Rock, Country, Hip Hop, Disco and Classical.
“The World is Just Awesome speaks to the core of what Discovery Channel is all about. Just like the network; individuals like Kamen and Sunderland bring an unrelenting passion and curiosity to everything they do. The spots are visually broad and sweeping yet fun and personal in tone. With the addition of our on-air talent, we bring to it a real personality,” said Dan Bragg, vice president creative, Discovery Channel.
The original spot, “The World is Just Awesome,” premiered in March 2008 and went on to pick up several prestigious industry awards including a Promax, Clio, One Show, International Andy and an Art and Technique of the American Commercial (AICP) Award for musical arrangement.
The original spot spawned countless homemade versions including: People around the world have been creating their own versions of the commercial and uploading them to YouTube.
