Pat Tillman's widow Marie Tillman will talk openly this Sunday, November 8 on ESPN'sSunday NFL Countdown (Sunday, 11 a.m., ESPN) and Outside the Lines (Monday, 3 p.m., ESPN).
For the first time on television, Marie talks about the circumstances that led Pat to enlist in the Army, the evidence that there was a cover-up of his death from friendly fire and how the Pat Tillman Foundation, which provides scholarships to those serving in the military, continues his legacy of service. Chris Connelly reports.
In her first TV interview, Marie Tillman, widow of former Arizona Cardinals safety Pat Tillman, will speak of her late husband’s decision to leave the NFL and the circumstances that led to his death while deployed in Afghanistan.
After the events of September 11, Pat enlisted in the United States Army.
In 2004, at the age of 27, Tillman was killed in action, but how he was killed was obfuscated by the military.
“I was angry definitely that the truth wasn’t told to us and that it took so many years and such a long process to even get the information that we did get. I was definitely angry about the circumstances surrounding his death and the fact that we weren’t told the truth.” – Marie Tillman, on evidence of a cover-up after Pat’s death.
She spoke of his foundation:“That’s my favorite part of doing this is being able to meet the people who we were able to have an impact in their lives and see how the money that we’re providing them for their education is really making a difference.”
