Carrie Underwood hosts FOX Variety special in December

Former "American Idol" and top-selling country crooner Carrie Underwood is confirmed by FOX to host a Holiday-themed variety special on December 7.

The network is planning a two-hour variety special with guests that include Dolly Parton, Brad Paisley and fellow "Idol" winner David Cook, with additional guests to be announced.

The program has not yet been titled.

Along with her hits and holiday classics, Underwood will perform music from her new album, Play On, which is scheduled for a Nov. 3 release.

The FOX special will be executive-produced by "Idol's" Simon Fuller and directors Nigel Lythgoe and Adam Shankman.
