The Music Box in Hollywood was the scene as the top echelon IATSE Local 706 artists in film and TV assembled to see Mel's presentation of five dance styles and their specific makeup looks.
Present were Local 706's President Susan Cabral-Ebert, Academy Governor Leonard Engelman, along with Oscar winning artist Rick Baker, Emmy winners Trefor Proud and David Williams, M.A.C.'s stylish LA industry rep Monique Boyer and many other notable makeup artists. It was a great event (more details and photos later) that brought home how important the hair and makeup crafts are to fully execute the ballroom dance competition.
You cannot demonstrate a believable Tango without eyeliner and perfect lips! M.A.C. debuted many products including Mattene lipticks that brought the drama, as well as their "Lid Viscious" looks of refined, lined and intense eyes that illustrated many of Mel's makeup designs for the show.
Last night we learned the 14 remaining contestants had just four days to learn a new routine for Monday evening.
Mya and Aaron Carter did a fine job, and Donny Osmond too. Poor Tom Delay woofed it at the end of his Tango with Cheryl, but he still earned respectable "6's" from the judges, which included a nice guest Len replacement for the night: Baz Luhrmann.
The dances for the night included the high-energy jive, the stylized and serious tango and the upbeat quick step.
Luhrmann was a good choice and a thoughtful addition joining regulars Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli.
