Time magazine coverboy and FOX media star Glenn Beck was honored in his Washington state hometown.
Mount Vernon's Mayor Bud Norris presented the Beck with a ceremonial key to the city Saturday evening, despite numerous protests.
The Seattle Post Globe reported that Norris earlier proclaimed Saturday "Glenn Beck Day" as protests over the TV personality's appearance in the town started to mount.
Beck reportedly recalled his early youth in Mount Vernon, a town 60 miles north of Seattle, as "magical" and connected to the values of small-town America. Beck later moved to Bellingham and attended Sehome High School.
The Saturday night Glenn Beck fundraiser event at McIntyre Hall sold out all the tickets at $25 each. The benefit was for the Lincoln Theater.
According to several Seattle news reports, demonstrators outside the city's McIntyre Hall were approximately 800, and they were split between those who supported Beck and those who opposed his visit.
Now a fixture on FOX News, his syndicated radio program now appears on more than 350 radio stations. He recently made headlines discussing the ACORN scandal on his show.
