The chicken farmer who could sing his heart out took the win for "America's Got Talent."
What makes his victory even sweeter is that Skinner was an unemployed farmhand — and had always wanted to make his way as a musician.
Skinner beat out opera singer Barbara Padilla, his final competitor after almost 100,000 contestants auditioned for the fourth season of the NBC talent show.
Judge Sharon Osbourne was pulling for Skinner and shared with People magazine, “It’s just such a feel-good story that people just want him to win because he’s the everyman. He’s the underdog. All his life he’s been the underdog … He’s so genuine, what you see is what you get. He’s not contrived, and so many people that come on this show kind of get sophisticated and they know how to play the game."
