Despite his recent statements that he would not associate with anyone who did cocaine, DJ AM apparently has died from an alleged overdose of some form of the drug.
He survived a plane crash last year that claimed four lives, yet his second chance still did not resolve popular disc jockey and reality TV personality DJ AM from steering clear of the demons that nearly killed him time and again. He had been sober and at a healthy weight for 11 years, but something threw the recovering addict back into the drug scene. He survived a plane crash last year that claimed four lives, yet his second chance still did not resolve popular disc jockey and reality TV personality DJ AM from steering clear of the demons that nearly killed him time and again. Some news sources are speculating his pain from the plane crash burns got him hooked on prescription painkillers.
DJ AM was famously linked to Nicole Richie and dated Mandy Moore, and some news reports claim it was a failed relationship that sent him into a downward spiral.
TMZ.com reported that a bag of crack was found stuck to his bare chest when he was found dead in his SoHo apartment yesterday.
DJ AM (Adam Goldstein) should have been anticipating the upcoming MTV show he was so proud of, "Gone Too Far," revealing the premise and his storied past to TV Critics at the recent summer TCA's in Pasadena California, on July 29, 2009.
The Medical Examiner's office announced today that an autopsy performed today was inconclusive, the exact nature of his death not known, but the amount of drug paraphernalia and legal prescription drugs and illegal crack at the apartment indicate it was a possible combination of drugs that might have killed him.
DJ AM's body was discovered at his 210 Lafayette St. address in New York, after the 36-year-old had left a cryptic Twitter days before, and friends worried about the popular spinner.
The New York Post claimed that it was two concerned friends who found him.
DJ AM shared with Monsters and Critics at the recent TCA's that he was extremely happy to be part of an intervention series that took a hard stance with addicts. "There's brutally honest and really tough scenes in this series," Goldstein shared with me when he was in the makeup room, prior to being interviewed by the electronic media upstairs at the Langham Hotel, in Pasadena. "In my own life, I had to walk away from people I liked, and people I enjoyed because of drugs, you cannot be an addict and be around people who are doing blow, smoking crack, it's impossible."
I asked him if he had to completely start over and find new friends. "In a sense you do have to, I did find a new group to hang with, work with, but in the clubs...it's so hard because people are constantly at you offering everything...I have an allergic reaction to alcohol and drugs. I cannot have just one of anything."
TMZ is claiming a break-up with model Hayley Wood set off his self-destruction.
