During a special guest appearance on “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” Wynonna Judd won $50,000 for her favorite charity, Backpack Mission Ministries.
How refreshing to hear that Wynonna’s winnings, all of it, will help to provide backpacks filled with food for American children in impoverished homes of rural Kentucky, her home state.
According to Wynonna, Backpack Mission Ministries is a feeding program that provides food each week for over 350 three year to 15 year-old children in the Appalachian Mountains.
The children receive breakfast and lunch at school but when they go home for the weekend they are sometimes without food until Monday morning. Each Friday Backpack Mission Ministries provides a backpack full of non-perishable, easy open food for them to survive during the weekend.
Wynonna was presented with a puzzling mathematical scenario and with the help of a ‘Phone-A-Friend’ lifeline - her Aunt Margaret Mandell - Wynonna provided the correct answer to win the money for the kids’ charity. ABC also announces that Wynonna’s 4-part web series “I’m With Wy” launches Thursday on ABC.com.
The series will feature Wynonna Judd in support of their primetime special, “CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night To Rock”.
ABC.com is showcasing the country music superstar in a short-form series captured in Nashville during the CMA Music Festival, giving a behind-the-scenes look from the fan’s perspective. According to show producers, the ABC.com series features nine-time CMA winner Wynonna as she celebrates her 25th anniversary in the music business. “CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock” airs Monday, August 31st (8-11pm, ET) on the ABC Television Network.
