The Degrassi gang takes over on The N's (which will be renamed TeenNick in the fall) first-ever original two-hour movie, Degrassi Goes Hollywood, premiering Friday, August 14, at 8:00 p.m. (ET).
The only thing bigger than their dreams is the drama when they venture to Hollywood to score parts in a film, Mewesical High, directed by Jason Mewes (Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back) who plays himself.
Degrassi Goes Hollywood also features guest appearances by Kevin Smith, Perez Hilton, Pete Wentz, Vivica A. Fox, Kelly Carlson and Cassadee Pope.
“The movie features the return of series favorites, Paige, Marco, Ellie and Craig, alongside the current Degrassi cast in an all-new star-studded adventure,” said Sarah Tomassi Lindman, Senior Vice President and General Manager of The N. “Filled with fun celebrity cameos, including Degrassi veterans Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes, fans will experience the ups-and-downs of fame and friendship as their beloved characters try to make it in Hollywood.”
Degrassi Goes Hollywood features six brand-new original songs performed by series cast members. The songs--two by Jake Epstein who plays Craig Manning, two by Cassie Steele who plays Manny Santos and two ensemble recordings--will be available on the Degrassi Goes Hollywood soundtrack, out digitally July 21 and in stores August 4 on Bulletproof Records.
The Premise:
When Manny (Cassie Steele) bombs her audition for Jason Mewes’ new film, she must face the consequences when he casts Paige (Lauren Collins) instead. Paige’s old friends Marco (Adamo Ruggiero) and Ellie (Stacey Farber) fly to Hollywood to support her, but soon realize she’s become a diva overnight. While in Los Angeles, Ellie reunites with Craig (Jake Epstein) and old emotions surface between the former couple. Meanwhile, Manny (Cassie Steele), Jay (Mike Lobel) and the members of the Degrassi band The Stüdz board a school bus for a cross-country road trip to help Manny reclaim the lead role in Mewesical High. Will Manny make it to L.A. in time to claim the role she knows she deserves or will her high school nemesis Paige be standing in the way of her dream?
Degrassi: The Next Generation, winner of both a Television Critics Association Award and two Teen Choice Summer Series Awards, is a fictional, dramatic series that tackles tough issues in a realistic way. Degrassi explores an interesting group adolescents and young adults going through the trials and tribulations at Degrassi Community School and beyond.
