Whenever a great actor or actress from the golden days of television and movies passes on I always get a sinking feeling inside. When I first read about Beatrice Arthur's death I was stunned. I was pretty much depressed throughout the rest of the day. I was unaware that Beatrice had cancer. As a child I vividly remember sitting in my family room with my parents and brother watching Maude. Even as a young child I used to think Maude was a funny show. I certainly wasn't old enough to understand the grown-up subject matter, but nevertheless I though Maude was a fun show to watch. Truly a cutting edge brilliant creation from Norman Lear. Beatrice was a superb actress. Every role she played was done with perfection. I hope that Beatrice didn't suffer long with her illness. I'm certain Beatrice is at peace now. Thank you Beatrice for the many years of laughs and good times you've given us and the happy, nostalgic memories. Bless you Beatrice.
At 40 years of age, it is only in recent years that I have become addicted to the reruns of the Golden Girls. It was wonderful for me to have women of their age to look up to, and to even relate to. They made it seem all right to get older, and still enjoy life, and (gasp) have a sex life. Now Estelle and Bea are gone, but we still have Betty and Rue. God bless them. Estelle and Bea no longer need our prayers. May they rest in peace.
