The actor's dramatic work will be resurrected by DirecTV channel 101 for his short-lived by critical darling series "Smith," (as well as other series "The Nine" and "Eyes") all Warner Bros. TV productions.
"Fans were extremely disappointed when Smith, The Nine and Eyes were taken off the air, just as they were becoming involved in these shows," says Patty Ishimoto, general manager of The 101 Network, in a DirecTV statement.
"Building on the success of Season 3 of 'Friday Night Lights' and 'Wonderland,' we're adding three more shows that further build our portfolio of quality television you can't see anywhere else."
"Smith" premiered on CBS in the fall of 2006 and starred Ray Liotta, Virginia Madsen, Simon Baker, Jonny Lee Miller, Amy Smart, Franky G., Chris Bauer and Shohreh Aghdashloo. Cinematographer Oliver Bokelberg (The Visitor, The Station Agent) lensed the stylish series.
The show premise was about career criminal (Liotta) and the team he assembled to pull off a regular series of robberies and heists, while trying to convince his wife (Madsen) that he'd gone straight.
Liotta and Madsen had real chemistry, she was just off her Oscar nomination for her great turn in "Sideways." Baker, currently in hit series "The Mentalist," was fantastic in his role as a true psychopath.
CBS pulled "Smith" and rushed "3 Lbs." to the air which died after four episodes.
DirecTV will premiere "Smith" on Wednesday, April 8 at 10 p.m., airing the first three episodes, as well as four never-before-seen episodes.
Now the Emmy-winner Liotta shocked “Extra’s” Carlos Diaz when revealing what inspires him saying, “What moves me sometimes..Sometimes I watch American Idol. And when the right guy or the right girl sings and you can see them like coming up to their moment. The song they pick….and it’s going to change their lives. I find that really inspirational.”
The "Observe and Report" star continues, “Sometimes I’m moved by it…I don’t want to run out and sing a song, but I just think [when] people are reaching their dreams, it’s a little inspirational.”
