As of Tuesday, 5,284 parents and growing had signed an online petition asking that they be removed, according to People.com.
In a statement to People, Nick stands by its decision not to remove Brown, who has been charged with biting, punching and choking Rihanna while making criminal threats, as a nominee for the show set to air on March 28.
"Like all our KCA nominees, Chris Brown was nominated by kids several months ago based on his body of work as a performer," a Nickelodeon rep said. "And the kids who vote will ultimately decide who wins in the category."
Brown is up for two awards, Favorite Male Singer and Favorite Song for "Kiss Kiss," the latter of which finds him up against his girlfriend and alleged victim, Rihanna.
Nickelodeon claims that Brown won't be at the show.
"Chris has been hanging out with Rihanna, working on his music and spending time with and speaking with his mother and pastor," a source told People.
On Tuesday, Diddy had a terse exchange with host Ellen on her "Ellen DeGeneres Show" about why he allowed Brown and Rihanna to vacation at his Miami home after the February 8 incident.
Ellen pointed out in no way was it okay for girls to feel they had to return to be with their abuser.
"It was a dark time for them, and I was there as more of a support," he said. "I'm not immersed in [the proceedings]. I'm not going to pass judgment on it. I'm going to be there as a friend."
“That’s somebody else’s business,” he told Ellen when pressed about the incident.
“I know, but you gave them your house,” Ellen responded. “Why would you give Chris, a guy who hit a girl, and he’s jet skiing around in your… I was a huge fan of Chris’. I love Chris’ music, he’s a talented guy, but to hit a girl…”
“I know both of them and it’s my house. And I’m allowed to give my house to whoever I want to give my house to. That’s number one. Number two is that I’m the type of person that I don’t cast a stone or cast a judgment on anybody. If a friend asks me for a favor, then I’mma be there for a favor, as long as I know the energy of the favor is positive. If I could be there as a friend during hard times, then I’mma be there as a friend,” he went on to say.
