If you watched the IFC Independent Spirit Awards last night, you already know the best acceptance speech ever in the history of all award shows anywhere was delivered by actor Mickey Rourke.
His win for "The Wrestler" as Randy The Ram took everyone by surprise, especially fellow actor Eric Roberts, and even the Santa Monica police who Rourke made a point of thanking for their "attention" when he was really down and out.
The profanity-laced speech came from Rourke's heart, and was brutally honest in its emotion and sentiment.
Mickey broke up a bit when he dedicated the award to his beloved chihuahua Loki who passed a week ago.
Mickey made a plea to Hollywood to put Eric Roberts in a suitable project to show off his amazing talent. Monsters and Critics' favorite Roberts-Rourke acting collaboration was in the 1984 "The Pope of Greenwich Village;" the scene where Paulie (Roberts) gets in a tizzy over tough mozzarella is perfection:
Mickey also thanked the WWE and Vince McMahon, and fellow "Wrestler" star "Melissa-Marisa Tomei" who he credited with "climbing the pole" well.
