The WWE announced on Friday that Mickey Rourke, Best Actor nominee in the Academy Award-nominated and Golden Globe winning movie, “The Wrestler,” will make an appearance at WrestleMania 25 on April 5.
The company’s Web site says: “We are pleased that Mickey Rourke will be in attendance at WrestleMania to support the WWE superstars who support him and the film.”
Rourke's red carpet comments before the Screen Actors Guild Awards were that he would square off with WWE superstar Chris Jericho at WrestleMania 25.
A subsequent follow up on CNN's Larry King Live had the two face off, as Rourke back peddled on his rumored bout with Jericho.
Also revealed is the music for WrestleMania: AC/DC's "Shoot to Thrill" (live version) and "War Machine" have been chosen as the official theme songs for the 25th anniversary of "WrestleMania" a professional wrestling pay-per-view event produced annually by World Wrestling Entertainment.
At the 36th annual Global Media and Communications Conference, wife of Vince, Linda McMahon — Chief Executive Officer of World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. — announced that AC/DC will perform live at WrestleMania XXV, which is scheduled to take place on April 5, 2009 at the Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas.
In an interview with E! Online, Vince McMahon had this to say about Rourke's appearance:
"I am pleased that Mickey Rourke will be in attendance at WrestleMania to support the WWE Superstars who support him and the film in which he stars, The Wrestler."
