Saturday Night Live shone brightly last night with Neil Patrick Harris as host.
SNL starts 2009 Amy Poehler-less, and is trying to keep heat to the ratings after Tina Fey kicked off the season with her pre-election Sarah Palin home run apearances.
SNL booking Neil Patrick Harris was an excellent plan.
NPH is the star of "How I Met Your Mother", "Harold and Kumar" films, and of Internet phenom by Joss Whedon - Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog.
Harris dished on bow Fred Savage end-runned him to host SNL as a kid, instead of NPH in his "Doogie Houser" days.
He also played a fitness guru in a Today Show parody.
Memories of Doogie Howser were resurrected in a digital short where NPH played the Doogie Howser theme song which turned into an orchestra performance, with the cast playing the song in Doogie Howser costumes.
Jason Sudekis reprised his Gov. Blagojevich impression he debuted in 2008's last SNL episode. The Roland Burris/Rod Blagojevich scandal was lampooned in a cold open spoof of The Rachel Maddow Show. Kenan Thompson played Burris.
