It isn't variety shows that are dead. It's Rosie's career. She is so blind to it, but people don't like her self-absorbed bitterness and acidic attitude. I don't personally approve of her lifestyle, but I don;t approve of Ellen's either and I still find her a pleasant entertaining person.
Rosie's dominant feature is the chip on her shoulder. It's ugly and that makes her a very ugly person. I'm not talking about looks either.
The show was good. Let's face it, variety shows are entertainment in a different sense. Singers sing songs that emphasize lyrics, comics joke, dancers dance in a manner that focuses on choreography. Variety shows like the one that O'Donell is trying to bring back are not the type of shows that have females singing with their stance spread, or dancers jumping until their boobs almost fall out. This is what sells these days. It's entertainment of a different sort, and most people seem to be okay with that. It doesn't require that much artistic skill, and it still demeans part of the population. I am rooting for O'Donell, though.

The show was awful. I had hopes for it because I (usually) like Rosie and I like Variety shows. It played like an unrehearsed fundraiser with big names. If I'm seeing a prime time variety show, the result should look better than a telethon. This show failed miserably in all respects.

There is actually very little on any of the stations that is entertaining or intellectually challenging in any way. I find I turn off the tv more often than not. Shows are boring, way too sexual in every way and so inappropriate for every age group. Wake up Hollywood and give tv viewers and movie goers something really good. We don't want to watch people make love, beat each other up and stalk anyone who says the wrong thing. Don't you know yet that the most romantic scenario is what you DON/T see.

Variety shows will return and receive the high ratings the good ones deserve. Shows such as American Idol and Dancing with the stars have been well received because their only purpose is to entertain.

She needs therapy to find why she is so hateful of anyone not like herself (fat, ugly lesbian) and will need to find a new job in life outside entertainment. People do not care about her anymore. People seem to actually 'hate' her.
She should take note of how Ellen Degenerate finally got smart and turned it around. She shut up about her messed up genetics, stopped trying to think she was unique and special, and realized that people care about being entertained, NOT about her constant internal battles with her sexual preferences and politics.

First, I didn't even know there was to be a show. Second, as others have mentioned, I wouldn't have been interested, had I knownm because of Rosie's recent history of negativity - I just don't like the girl's attitude. Third, her line-up of guests doesn't interest me at all either - what a strange group - and not the least bit 'entertaining' with the exception of Clay, who I will grant you has a fine voice. A variety show should have engaging entertainment - comedy skits, musical numbers, jugglers, you know - if Rosie really wanted to tap into days of old variety, she should have watched some Ed Sullivan, Sonny & Cher, Carol Burnett.... that's a variety show. What she got, it seems, is a new talk show, with limited engagement, that had no drawing power as it provided nothing that the other talk shows didn't already have. Sad for her. I recently saw her on Rachel Ray's show and she was loud, obnoxious, interruptive, and boorish - not to mention that she ate with less than good manners - quite disgusting. I can usually tolerate Rachel's show, but after a few minutes of Rosie, the channel was changed. It would be nice to see Rosie do something uplifting for a change - her old show was fun, though not the best out there, thus it didn't last. Poor Rosie. If she calmed down a little, got off her high horse, polished herself, and had something relevant to say, she could be quite successful. Too bad she's not listening to anyone but herself it seems.
Now I see she is taking shots at The View as well.
She seriously needs an intervention. She needs major psychological help. She has no room for anyone not like herself, which, like most Liberals, is typical, and the antithesis of what liberals state they are all for.
We are all different, but for some to think they are unique and require propping up all the time, it just makes the situation worse.
If Rosie kept her gay desires to herself, and could focus on being an entertainer without having to assault others that are not gay and not liberals, she would get much further in life - BUT, she has used up all her chances. She is finished. I hope she saved her money and was not 100% in the stock market for her sake.
I am a centralist, and have numerous gay friends. They don't have a need to feel different and be recognized. They are great people who act NORMAL. They just get-on with life, like everyone should. People don't want to see gay parades or straight parades, and men with beards kissing in public and having to explain this to our children. For God's sake. Show some decency. It always seems to be all about sex for the homosexuals.
Rosie is disliked within the gay community a lot - I did not realize this until my friends told me recently. She is exactly the opposite of what the gays need.

The majority of Americans would prefer not to have to deal with it all the time. If yo want to be gay, be gay, but for goodness sakes, if we want to be normal and heterosexual, than back-off.

Historically, the politics, sexuality, even the 'likability' and personal performance talent of a variety show's host/producer have been completely irrelevant to its success. What has been relevant is that the producer/host has had an uncanny knack for presenting significantly talented acts (especially 'unknowns') and for selecting/arranging (along with an experienced variety-show-specific directorial staff) the material, the order of presentation and the pacing of those acts into a cohesive and entertaining whole. But none of those very special abilities mean anything if the producer/host does not have virtually absolute autonomy in running the show. And that's something that no network will ever yield anymore. I'm not saying that Rosie possesses any of the required production talents, but even the most talented and universally likable producer/host would likely fail in that situation. Blaming the failure on her personality, politics and/or sexuality is simply ignorant.
Everone involved with this national tragedy should be unemployed immediately.

I miss the variety show and sat down with my kids to watch this show. I don't know Rosie much as I don't watch TV much, but BOY...my kids now think I'm a 'SILLY OLD WOMAN' for making them sit through what I would agree was the worst 'variety' show I have ever seen. Thank goodness for a few minutes of Harry Conick Jr. I will never force my kids to sit for family entertainment again....riddled with gay/lesbian jokes, and a stripping singer. Thought it was to be an attempt at good, clean, family entertainment. My TV is now OFF.

When you have any education in your life--even a little bit of community college, you learn that people are inclined to hate the thing they don't like about themselves. Most, if not all, people who hate gay people are petrified that they themselves are gay. It's a fact. Look into it. When you become comfortable with your own sexuality you don't worry about other people's sexuality as much. Stay safe. And stay away from airport bathrooms where you'll find other repressed republicans playing footsie.

I thought Rosie seemed to be extremely uptight. She pursed her lips like she was doing something very unpleasant. It wasn't the Rosie I remember. I actually enjoyed Rosie on The View. Somebody had to put that obnoxious Elizabeth in her place. Joy can barely get a word in edge-wise. I would have loved to hear Clay Aiken sing. He also has a comedic side. Liza is past her prime. Alec was OK. Kathy Griffith is obnoxious. Her rendition of Nancy Grace was horrible. Sorry, not a big fan of Gloria Esteben, but I do appreciate her talent. Harry Connick Jr. could have sang more. I think Rosie means well. She should have patterned her show more after Donnie and Marie or Cher. Rosie loves Broadway. She could have incorporated something like that with more singing. OK the show was not the best, but Rosie herself is entertaining and passionate and just wanted to do a great show. I personally think too many guest were crammed into an hour. LIVE is not a great format for a variety show.
People need to get over the 'View' situation including Barbara Walters. That show was dead until Rosie came on and yes it's doing well today BECAUSE of the attention Rosie brought to it and Whoopi has done a great job of calming the Beast (EH). The show was NOT political until Rosie came on, they did not do give-aways ( although they seemed to have lost the point when Rosie left because most of the giveaways are a joke now - Shampoo?, they spent way too much time on ridiculous fashion segments. People forget that Rosie turned the Talk Show back to entertaining from the days of 15 talks shows a day all trying to be Jerry Springer like. She went back to Mike/Merv format and made it her own ( and most days, it was a variety show as well). Her intentions here were great and although the LIVE part ultimately did not work, I hope some network will give another variety show a chance as well as Rosie. Also note: Should have been on Thu night - Wed night, most people are traveling either stuck on the road or in some aiport ( had ot not been for TIVO, I would have missed it too).
I am thrilled, while not a bit surprised, that her idiot idea of a show failed. She got what she had coming and she is finished in television. I can just imagine what Donald Trump had to say when he hear that her variety show series was cancelled after One Show !

I am neutral when it comes to Rosie, I can take her or leave her. I had high hopes for the show based on the guests that were appearing, but the show was not very good. I don't understand when people say they are sick of gay people talking about it. So many gay people don't want to talk about it but they are hounded until they do. The media and the public try to 'OUT' people and don't let it go until they say it. Clay Aiken has hounded for 5 years to talk about his sexuality and refused. He was ridiculed and made fun of for not talking about it. People would say 'Why doesn't he just answer the question'. When he finally answers the question he is ripped apart for talking about it. People said 'Why does he think we want to hear about it'? Maybe because he was harrased for years to say if he was gay or straight. He can't win. You hear gay jokes constantly in 'Prime Time'. When straight people tell gay jokes it's okay, but when gay people tell them they are shoving it in your face. This is just an excuse for obnixious people to insult anyone who is gay.

I think the O'Donnells should publicly disown her!!! I dont care about her attempt at a tv show.
