There are so many great older TV series to own and share with those who never caught them the first time around. Considering some of the newer series out there, it is worth rowing back in time a bit for some quality television.
My Get_Smart complete series boxed set has a hallowed place on my DVD shelves and it is good medicine; loan it out to any terminally depressed friends you might have.
If the "Craw" can't cure their blues, have them watch Sigfried's segments. If that doesn't work, rid their homes of any sharp objects and belts immediately.
Shout! Factory has wisely tapped into a yearning, if you will, to when times were less stressful, and released Freaks and Geeks Yearbook Edition, The Home Movies 10th Anniversary Box Set, Mystery Science Theater 3000: 20th Anniversary Edition, The Gonzo Tapes: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, I Got the Feelin’: James Brown In The ‘60s & Sports Night: The Complete Series 10th Anniversary.
This is a great gift idea, and perfectly thoughtful for the hard to please:

Mystery Science Theater 3000: 20th Anniversary Edition
Be still my heart: My favorite B, C and D movie rip-athon - Mystery Science Theater 3000 - comes to Shout! Factory just in time for its 20th anniversary. The Emmy-nominated and Peabody Award-winning TV show Mystery Science Theater 3000 became a pop culture landmark in the ’90s by poking fun at horrible movies of every genre and time period, and letting us listen in. They made the unwatchable essential viewing.
The geniuses at Shout made a specially packaged Mystery Science Theater 3000: 20th Anniversary Edition, a 4-DVD set featuring four of the show’s most-requested episodes—First Spaceship on Venus (1960), Laserblast (1978), Werewolf (1996), and Future War (1997).

The Gonzo Tapes: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson
The Gonzo Tapes: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson was released by Shout! Factory on October 28.
The 5-CD box set of previously unreleased recordings includes original cover artwork by Ralph Steadman, an introduction by film director Alex Gibney, and a 44-page booklet with never before seen photos from his estate.
Recorded by Thompson between 1965 and 1975, these tapes capture his thoughts and descriptions both as they’re happening and in reflection, as he would often go back to rerecord commentary. Filmmaker Alex Gibney, producer Eva Orner and Gonzo archivist Don Fleming were given permission by Thompson’s widow to explore the boxes of tapes stored in the basement of his Owl Farm home in Woody Creek, Colorado, left behind after Thompson’s suicide in 2005. Fleming transferred the audiocassettes and reel-to-reel tapes to digital files, and they made their way to the cutting room for the film Gonzo: The Life And Work Of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson.

Sports Night: The Complete Series 10th Anniversary
Debuting on ABC in 1998, Sports Night was an innovative half-hour program about a team of smart people who put on a daily live sports cable newscast, it preceded today's ESPN’s SportsCenter.
This team is funny, disciplined, capable and fast-thinking—a group of consummate professionals, but in their personal lives . . . not so much. There they operate in apparent chaos, communicating every uncensored thought and feeling through a libretto of witty and honest chatter over the hum of the separate-but-integrated live show-within-the-show.
With breakout and memorable performances by Josh Charles (In Treatment), Robert Guillaume (Benson), Felicity Huffman (Desperate Housewives), Peter Krause (Dirty Sexy Money), Sabrina Lloyd (Sliders) and Joshua Malina (The West Wing), this was writer/producer Aaron Sorkin’s (A Few Good Men, The American President) first television series. And it was director Thomas Schlamme’s first collaboration with Sorkin. The pair, who would continue to click brilliantly with The West Wing and Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip, may not have known it at the time, but with Sports Night they defined a new style and raised the bar for all television programs to follow.
