Not a whole lot of Fantasy genre on television, but that will change soon as HBO will bring the literary series "Songs of Ice and Fire" to the smallscreen.
Variety reported that HBO has greenlit the pilot for a fantasy drama series, "Game of Thrones," the first book in the popular series by George R.R. Martin.
David Benioff and D.B. Weiss adapted the book for the screen.
Carolyn Strauss (formerly of HBO) will serve as a co-executive producer, along with Guymon Cassidy, Vincent Gerardis and author George R.R. Martin.
Daily Variety first reported that HBO acquired the TV adaptation rights to Martin's "Songs of Ice and Fire" book series nearly two years ago. The book was originally published under the Bantam banner in 1996.
Like most fantasy, there will be epic battles and struggles within a kingdom, or world of sorts. The book "A Game of Thrones" takes place in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, a place and time akin to Medieval Europe. It is a tale of Mad Kings, revenge, allegiances, love, dynastic marriages, sons and brothers avenging family deaths, bastard children and even incest.
