Senator Joe Biden got a night off too.
The special dinner was named for the former four-term governor of New York who was the unsuccessful Democratic presidential candidate in 1928 and the first Catholic to run for president.
The 63rd annual dinner traditionally is a lighthearted affair that has raised millions for medical causes over the years, and the two candidates were at ease and seemed to enjoy the break from the campaign fray.
Even though he was not there with his running mate, Senator Joe Biden had his own plans and made a minor flub while welcoming the viewers at home to The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
