"Private Practice" cast and crew gathered to celebrate their first season DVD release.

The medical drama, a spin-off of "Grey's Anatomy" stars Kate Walsh, Amy Brenneman, Audra McDonald, Paul Adelstein, KaDee Strickland and Chris Lowell.

Series showrunner Shonda Rhimes (also Grey's Anatomy's showrunner) celebrated the first season DVD release in the Tropicana Bar at the Roosevelt Hotel.
At the recent Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills, Rhimes told Monsters and Critics that "Grey's Anatomy is all about the surgery, whereas 'Private Practice hones in on really being a show that is all about the stories of ethical dilemmas that our doctors have...there is surgery in it because Addison is a surgeon, and she gets back to doing that.
But there's also just very high stakes in terms of the sorts of medicine of people's everyday lives that raise questions about 'what would you do if you were in that situation?'"
Rhimes continued, "Things that cause debate and conflict are very interesting...for me, the thing about writing is that the characters end up sort of doing what I'm doing at the moment...a lot of it really does happen because of whatever is going on in my head at the moment.
And the first season, it was the first time I'd had two shows going at the same time. It was the first time Addison moved to Los Angeles. It was Addison finding her footing. I was finding the show. Creatively speaking, I feel like both of these thing are stronger now."
The DVD release of ABC Television’s new series, Private Practice: The Complete First Season-Extended Edition, will make its debut on DVD on September 16, 2008 from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment.
The complete first season of Private Practice will be available for the first time in a three-disc set with exclusive bonus features including deleted scenes and behind-the-scenes revelations.
