Ortega / PR PhotosImmediately Rhimes was peppered by questions regarding the perceived insults that Katherine Heigl slung towards the writers.Heigl’s comments were made as she removed her name from Emmy contention earlier this summer.“When I was told [what she said], my reaction was surprise, but I love and respect her,” Rhimes told reporters during an ABC Television Critics Association panel at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills.Heigl told the Los Angeles Times that the “Grey’s” scripts were behind her withdrawing from a possible Emmy nod. “I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination and in an effort to maintain the integrity of the academy organization, I withdrew my name from contention,” Heigl had said.Rhimes clarified what she meant, and said Heigl had asked her to write her character Izzy "light" during a segment of the season so she (Heigl) could go film a movie. Rhimes obliged.“Katie is an outspoken person,” Rhimes said.Rhimes finished her thoughts with the remark, “I didn’t feel insulted,” referring to Heigl’s comments.
