Actor Tim Roth has been cast to star in a television series for FOX, "Lie to Me," a one-hour 13- episode drama from Imagine and 20th Century Fox TV, slated for an early 2009 premiere.
This is a TV first for Roth. Robert Schwentke is directing the pilot, shooting in August. Brian Grazer is executive producing with Imagine's president David Nevins and writer-creator Sam Baum, reports Variety.
Roth's character is described as "Dr. Cal Lightman, a scientist who pioneered the field of deception detection." A "human lie detector" who will use these powers to crack cases.
The show is reportedly based on the work of Paul Ekman. The Paul Ekman Group claim to be pioneers in research on emotions and deception - his website states his group provides training programs that help individuals and groups better understand emotions and become more effective at distinguishing truth and lies.
Roth, according to Variety, was hotly pursued to star in this drama by Grazer and Nevins.
Roth was recently seen in films, “The Incredible Hulk,” “Funny Games” and “Youth Without Youth.”
