Actor Jeff Goldblum will take over in place of Chris Noth on USA Network's "Law & Order: Criminal Intent."
Goldblum was the star of the short-lived "Raines" for NBC, a series that ended last year and also featured Madeleine Stowe, Dov Davidoff and Nicole Sullivan.
It was announced that Noth, who plays Det. Mike Logan on the Dick Wolf produced series, will be replaced by Jeff Goldblum when production begins on the new season in fall 2008.
"Chris has been a member of the 'Law & Order' family since the beginning, and Mike Logan is one of the most popular detectives in the history of television," executive producer Dick Wolf said in a statement. "We all wish him the best."
It is the second time Noth has left the "Law & Order" franchise. He spent five years on the original Law & Order series, when he left over various issues in 1995.
Noth returned as Logan in 1998 in a Law & Order TV movie for NBC, and was subsequently added to the cast of "Criminal Intent" in 2005.
"Jeff's presence will add a new dimension to an already successful show," Wolf said in his statement.
