no big deal. Kind of lame really. Then again, if it happened here (USA)around 1000 people would have complained rather than 200. Oh the world we live in!

Rueben - Nice to see that your opinions are well informed, in that you are criticising an ad that you havent even see - Way to go, really intelligent. Reminds me of all the religious leaders who called for a ban on Monty Python's 'Life of Brian' even though they hadn't seen the film.

If you bothered to open your mind before your mouth, you would realise, like many other people who have posted on here, that the ad was NEVER supposed to show two gay men kissing. It was supposed to suggest that if the 'mum' uses the Heinz 'deli' mayo, it would be like having a New York deli chef in your kitchen....why else is he wearing the white hat, apron and talking with that great New York accent and attitude in an English household. Before people on all sides, the religious zealots, the homophobes and the gay community get on their high horses, they should actually pay attention and figure out what it is they are actually shouting about.

Gay people are a fact of life, and homosexuality in the animal kingdom is well documented. I agree any lifestyle, gay, religous etc should not be 'shoved' down other peoples throats, but denying the existance of something which is plain for all to see, is bigoted and narrow-minded.

At least we still have people in this world that will stand up for what is right. Just because so many people are accepting homosexuality doesn't make it right. Worse yet having children (as if that could ever happen naturally), I'm glad that they pulled the ad, I would never want to see that on TV, if I had I would boycott the company.

Not Bad,quite funny. I think there should be some balance though and they should have two lesbians being smeared with mayo and kissed all over, then there would be something to shout abaout!!!

Now everyone grow up or look away.

The majority of parents don't want their young children exposed to homosexual propoganda - that's a fact. That doen't make them homophobic (what a wonderful buzzword). Nearly all children go though a 'gay' stage at a certain age but go on to develop normally (is that a forbidden word??). A vociferous minority are trying to exercise more influence than the majority - who seldom (except in instances like this) make their views known.

Dee - My comment to Rueben is as applicable to you. You are, yet again, someone basing their comments upon other peoples interpretation of what they have seen. At least have the decency and common sense to watch the advert for yourself on YouTube or elsewhere on the net, and then form YOUR OWN OPINION of what it is about, and don't just jump to the same conclusion others have.

People may have taken this ad too literal. It's not a gay couple, it's a straight couple but product is so good that it feels you have your own New York deli guy at home. Of course that doesn't mean that advertisers didn't expect the reaction the as has gotten.

I can't believe how ludicrous this is. This ad isn't even about homosexuality, it isn't portraying a family with two same sex partners. It is a joke, which is actually portraying a very conservative notion of family structure (2 kids, mom in the kitchen, dad going off to work, etc.). I am so frustrated that a few fringe fanatics can influence society in the way these right wingers do. Forget the 'gay agenda' our country has been high-jacked by homophobic ignorant evangelicals who have to attack every small thing while ignoring the real problems in society. And why is it that a commercial can get this much attention but when the president of the National Association of Evangelicals is caught taking meth with a gay prostitute there isn't so much as a whimper. I guess they need to attack others so they don't have to look too closely at themselves.

Yeah I know that the ad was just trying to be funny, but I don't find humor in homosexuality at all. Even though it wasn't stated it was implied, to be humorous...some things are just better left alone. There are many ads that use the same tactic with implied sexuality, but not many people complain or has the ads pulled, it is because we are inundated by things that we are just supposed to accept and slowly we begin to. Well, I for one won't stand for that, which is why I shouldn't be writing on this site in the 1st place today is a really nice day I should go outside *trails of...*

I worked for thirty years in advertising creating strategies that sold products. Trust me. This is not a good ad. How can paid 'professionals' drop such a bollock? Any positives for Heinz (like the extra publicity this has generated) will be seriously out-weighed by the negatives. Management Bottom Line ? Someone should be fired for this.

The people who complain about homosexuality being unnatural or unseen in the animal kingdom are clearly very unobservant of the world around them. But isn't it strange how they complain about two guys kissing on the grounds that (in their opinion) it's unnatural, but not about feeding an unnatural high fat product to children? Such a shame that Heinz have pandered to the ignorant.

There is some very subtle humor here. The product is for DELI style mayo. They're trying to play on the New York Deli angle by having a deli guy from the bronx playing 'mum'; alluding to 'mom can make sandwiches just like the NY Deli's by using this mayo'.

If you recall, Snicker's tried this angle during a recent superbowl, however, their ad's were much more overt and grotesque, which resulted in consumer backlash.

Given that the UK sophistication and approach to humor are more sophisticated than the US, I dont' see the big deal...but I'm not a fan of guy on guy action.

Utterly inoffensive, I can't believe they pulled the ad.
If it only takes 200 complainers to get things off the tv, maybe we should band together to get rid of some really rubbish programmes. Not that there'd be much left to watch...
