Adam Sandler is the recipient of the MTV Movie Awards “MTV Generation Award.”
The “2008 MTV Movie Awards” pays tribute to Sandler with the coveted “MTV Generation Award” for his amazing contribution to Hollywood and for entertaining the MTV audience for years.
From generation to generation, Adam Sandler has kept fans entertained since bursting onto the scene in MTV’s “Remote Control,” then as a castmember on “SNL” and his early film roles and cult classics such as "Billy Madison", "The Wedding Singer", "Big Daddy", "Happy Gilmore" and now this summer’s eagerly anticipated "You Don’t Mess with the Zohan" in theaters June 6.
The “MTV Generation Award” is the MTV Movie Awards’ highest honor. Past recipients include Mike Myers, Tom Cruise and Jim Carrey.
Hosted by Mike Myers, the “2008 MTV Movie Awards” airs LIVE on June 1st at 8:00pm/7c from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, CA.
“A 30-something waterboy, a broken-hearted 80s wedding singer and a rejected hockey player turned pro golfer… now that’s an impressive resume,” said Van Toffler, President, MTV Networks Music, Logo and Films Group.
“On Sunday our audience will present Adam with the MTV Generation Award for all the years he has captured, entertained and made us laugh our heads off.”
Sandler is currently in production on "Bedtime Stories" for Walt Disney Studios and was most recently seen in a starring role opposite Kevin James in Universal’s comedy "I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry."
Previously, he has been seen in Sony’s "Reign Over Me" and the box-office hits "Click" and "The Longest Yard." He also starred in "Spanglish," "50 First Dates," "Anger Management" and "Punch-Drunk Love," for which he received a Golden Globe nomination.
As previously announced, Coldplay and sexy singing and dancing ensemble, The Pussycat Dolls will take the stage to debut new music and deliver eagerly awaited live performances. Additionally, Sarah Jessica Parker, Ben Stiller, Will Ferrell, Jack Black, Steve Carell, Lindsay Lohan, Liv Tyler, Mark Wahlberg, Seth Rogen, Robert Downey Jr., Jennifer Hudson, Anne Hathaway, Edward Norton, James Franco, Emma Stone, Rumer Willis, Katharine McPhee, Brendan Fraser, Dwayne Johnson and Danny McBride join the growing list of presenters at the “2008 MTV Movie Awards.”
Up for the coveted golden popcorn at the “2008 MTV Movie Awards” are “Superbad,” leading the way with five nominations, and “Juno,” receiving four nominations. Also vying an award are “Enchanted,” “Transformers,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” and “Knocked Up” with 3 nominations each.
