"How I Met Your Mother" star Neil Patrick Harris spoke to Extra about Britney Spears’ rumored return to the hit show, making the sequel to cult classic Harold and Kumar Goes to White Castle and whether he’s made plans to return to Broadway.

Whether or not Britney Spears will reprise her role as Abby on HIMYM, Harris responded, “I don’t know if it’s true or not actually. I read it online as well, so nothing has been confirmed to me in any way, but we would be so lucky to have her. She was great fun the first time.”
When asked to set the record straight about the perceived negative comments he made to the AP regarding Spears, Harris explained, “I made no comments about her that I needed to correct. I’ve said all along that she was great on the show and she was and she was fun to be around.
We’re very protective of her while we’re making the show so there’s not a lot of dirt to be said. I think it was a slow news day. It’s interesting for me to see how the media’s game of telephone, especially on the internet, plays out.”
Harris didn't think twice about reprising his role in the sequel, "Harold and Kumar 2 Escape from Guantanamo Bay."
“They [movie producers] said if it’s not you, it’s Macaulay Culkin and he’s really excited to play you in the movie. So I caved in…I did it for peanuts,” Harris joked.
When asked if he’d agree to do a third Harold and Kumar film, he responded, “I’m real conscious of content and so I’m sure if there was a third and they wanted me to be a part of it, I would not say no, but I would certainly want to read the script…”
Harris revealed that his role in the original Harold and Kumar film helped him earn the role of Barney in "How I Met Your Mother."
He commented, “Carter [Bays] and Craig [Thomas] had seen Harold and Kumar and had they not seen me play such an extreme version of anything, they probably wouldn’t have trusted that skill set upon me to do week in and week out on How I Met Your Mother.”
As for whether Harris plans to return to Broadway, he responded, “No real plans on going to the stage and that’s not for lack of loving it. It’s just the time commitment. I just don’t have a year to commit to a show.”
