Mariah Carey's hit song Vision of Love was the first time I heard her.  Her lyrics were powerful with a voice that just floored me.

Treated me kind; Sweet destiny. Carried me through desperation
To the one that was waiting for me.  It took so long; Still I believed.
Somehow the one that I needed, would find me eventually...

The road for one of the seven ends tonight.

The Top 7 Idols sing "One Sweet Day," the old Mariah and Boyz II Men duet.

This week almost 36 million votes were cast.  The producers have played a bit of a shell game with the arranging of the contestants onstage.

In the first group, Jason Castro and Carly Smithson are joined together.   David Cook and Kristy Lee Cook in a seperate group.

Elliott Yamin takes the stage and sings "Free."  He has a great voice. We find out he lost his mother only days ago, and it makes the Mariah Carey song performed tonight all the more poignant.

Brooke is sent to David Cook's group.  Syesha is in Carly's group.

The arc angels are surrounding David Archuleta with their rose petals and harps, he isn't going anywhere.

Mariah Carey takes to the stage and sings "Bye Bye," a song about loss.

Back to reality: David Archuleta is told he is safe.  Seacrest tries to put him on the spot, and asks him to pick the bottom three which makes the kid just sits down on stage.

David Cook swapped groups with Syesha.  Archuleta was to go to the group that is safe, and is joined in the center by Carly, David Cook, Jason Castro, all four are told they are safe.

Syesha, Brooke, and Kristy Lee are your bottom three.

Syesha is told she is safe.  Then Brooke, who took umbrage with the comments Simon made regarding his thoughts that Kristy was a goner.

Kristy Lee Cook is eliminated from American Idol.

Did the right Idol leave at this point?
