Taylor mentioned a few months ago that he was planning on trying to buy out his contract. That might have been what happened. He wasn't getting any support from them anyway. Anything would be an improvement. But either way, he'll be better off having total and full musical creative freedom on his next album to do it the way he wants without the constrictions from JRecords. It might even be the STAX Record Label which he talks about so often. We'll have to wait and see. Can't wait for his next move.
Taylor did NOT buy out his contract. What part of 'dropped' don't you understand? He was dropped not only for poor sales, but for his rude, crass attitude and refusal to cooperate with people to whom he should have bowed down in gratitude. His sales alone would never have led to his being DROPPED. In a sense, he dropped himself. He dropped his own ball on his own foot.
From day one, when I saw the TH audition on AI, I thought he had a special and very unique sound. Was he the best of the best...perhaps not, but when you hear his voice you know it is him. Unfortunately, there were only two people on the AI panel that were in his corner (Paula & Randy) because they are from the South and can understand the genre of music that TH performs. From day one, Simon was against putting him through because Simon didn't see $ signs in his eyeballs. Why? First of all, Simon doesn't understand the genre and doesn't like it. Secondly, Simon saw that genre as a genre that has died off. There aren't many singers singing that style of music anymore...that genre's heyday is pretty much over and the CD buying public is very young and doesn't even know about this genre. The majority of the people that voted for TH are an older crowd...those that remember a sound of the past. Unfortunately, those people don't spend a lot of $ on CD purchases! TH is one of the modern day singers trying to bring that genre back and it will be an uphill battle if the industry doesn't back him...and that is exactly what has happened. Simon didn't like the genre or TH and Clive Davis tried to promote TH as something else, which is like trying to make a Mercedes out of a VW Bug...it just doesn't work. I could understand why TH stood his ground to promote himself in the genre that fits him. If AI/Clive Davis would have promoted him in his genre and backed him 100% instead of a weak 10%, then TH would have been more successful than he was. Personally, I think the two independent CD's that TH produced are far better than the self-titled CD Davis produced. I've seen TH in concert and I wasn't disappointed in the show at all. However, my disappointment comes with the AI crew who seem to have failed promoting their winner. Shame on AI for not standing behind the People's Choice!
You poor delusional SP'ers. Taylor can not sing. He is a joke. America has spoken and dismissed Taylor as the looser he really is.
You cheated to get him the win, but you can't buy him a voice, or a winning personality! Daughtry or Pickler should have won.
Taylor's management did not promote him properly. For God's sake, even Bucky Covington got a proper video made of his first single. Without visual media on VH1 covering an artist, they are doomed to failure. Look at all of the American Idol successes and you will see that their videos were played in high rotation on VH1 and MTV, etc. Taylor's mgmt. didn't even make a video of any of his songs, just some slapped together thing with still shots or rehearsal footage thrown in. He is way better looking than Elliot Yamin, and even he looks hot in his video (that was played all the time on VH1, by the way). Hopefully his new mgmt. team will be able to market him effectively. I am in my 40's, but I will spend $$ on a CD if I like a song or two on it. I really like 90% of the songs on Taylor's latest CD, so I bought it. I think he's good and have seen him in concert 3 times this year...a great performer. That's why he won and will continue to perform, even if he doesn't sell a lot of records.
Taylor has been talking about buying out his contract with JRecords for at least 3-4 months. Why is it so hard to accept that? LOL! It's Daughtry who will be licking Clive's ass until he has no use for him. By then, Taylor will be doing as he pleases. Yes, Taylor got exactly what he wanted and GOT.
Yeah Clive dropped him because his butt buddy Simon didnt like Taylor, and so the company didnt bother to pay off radio stations like they usually do to play his album. Taylor is recording this year and is happy. Thats all that matters. Why argue?
This is great news for Taylor!! He will be just fine without JRecords. They never promoted him anyway.
Taylor Hicks is a fantastic, energetic, crowd-pleasing performer and singer. He completed a very popular tour this past year, and his stage persona is what gets his fans going. There is no one who can deny his positive image in his stage performances. He loves music and performing, and I do hope, even with J Records dropping him, that he will continue to perform and be successful.
Taylor was a special event on American Idol, and no one has followed in his footsteps yet. There are few who could bring his genre of music back to life and people loved it as though it was a totally new form of music.
I agree totally with the above post which states that Taylor is much better off without J records. They didn't support him, try to sell him, or anything ele that others have had done for them. But Taylor needs no selling, either you like him, or you don't. I love him! HIs energy onstage is awesome and contagious. His voice is not like anybody else's. But the thing I respect most about Taylor is that he does his own thing and doesn't try to fit some mold created by what kids like or by the people who cater to them. I'm 36, I don't consider that old, and I DO buy CD's. My 11 year old daughter loves Taylor too. We also like Chris, Kellie, Bucky, Elliott, etc. I really don't see why you have to hate one to like the other. Let them all do their thing. If you don't like it, just don't listen.
All my best to Taylor and I can't wait until he makes another CD.
I believe that Taylor Hick's will have the last laugh. There is a buying public for his music. I know I buy CD'a all of the time and I am in my 50's and I love the music that he sings. I have his CD and will buy anything he put's out there. Let's face it the shelf life for some of the 'POP STARS' today is not long. Whatever the reason for Taylor leaving or being let go I believe it is in his best interest. They have done the same thing to Bo Bice & Ruben. If this continues the fans of AI will stop watching. In todays market with CD's sales dropping, someone who sales between 200K and 800K is doing really good for new artist. I say good for Taylor, Ruben & Bo I will be waiting for whatever they put out next. Here's hoping that the fans of these fine artist will buy their CD's like they are going out of style. I know I will.
The music business is so shady. Taylor Hicks simply did not have the sex appeal, look and image that they wanted. That is the reason he was not promoted properly. The record companies only want to promote the Justin Timberlakes, Britney's and Beyonce's. People that are popular because of their looks and image and lack of talent.
Did any of you notice that Dancing With the Stars won the people's choice award this year instead of American Idol? Maybe the pulic, or in this case, The Soul Patrol, Has shown that we don't appreciate all of the negative comments Simon made about Taylor, or the fact that they didn't even hardly acknowledge him this year at all.
Booyah!!
I am so glad they dropped him. I was so upset at that season. My top 3 favorites were Chris Daughtery, Elliott Yamin and Katharine McPhee. Chris and Elliott have done so much better in sales and it really shows who the real talented people are. I think the only 2 seasons the voting public got it right was season 1 when Kelly C won and season 4 when Carrie won. The other seasons have been disappointing.
Last year Melinda or Lakesha should of won
Taylor Hicks will do just fine without this lame record company owning him. He's old school, and that style of music never goes away. He's at a point now where he can record his own songs which are much better then what the label gave him to record. Whatever he does now will be on his own terms, and that's how it should be. Taylors blues and soul sensibilites will survive the pop culture that changes overnight. He'll be around doing his thing long after all the others are forgotten.
I agree TH is old school, and I can appreciate the music he wants to do, but he still was not as good as the other 3. With that said, I would like to see Katharine McPhee do a more standards CD. She has the voice, but it's not going to shine with all of that electronic production over her. I was so disappoined in her debut album. The material is really bad.
I would pay to see Taylor Hicks perform any night of the week. I wouldn't pay a penny to see all of the spoiled multimillionaire, non-talented duds like Ryan Seacrest, Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson. Nor would I pay to see Clive Davis. They all make at least 60 million a year when anyone who walked off the street could do their jobs and probably a lot better. Ryan Seacrest is making at least 60 million a year even though he has no talents other than flapping his mouth. Same goes for Simon. He makes closer to a 100 million a year and for what?
Face it Americans, the United States is going down for the count. Since I was 15 I realized that those who produced the most got paid the least. Look at Pat Sajak? He is making 50-75 million a year for MCing a game show where contestants spin a wheel. Good god! Pat Sajak even bragged that he worked less than one week a year for his 75 million. He had a television talk show that flopped mainly because he injected his right wing republican bias into the show. Here you have a guy who makes 75 million who laughs at people making minimum wage. Sajak even attacked anyone who was needed aid from the government. That of course, is a right wing republican position. Republicans love to blast anyone who is poor or who need a helping hand. While republicans 'claim' to all be great christians, I haven't seen many of them who actually follow in the footsteps of Jesus. Instead, republicans routinely attack anyone who acts like Jesus. If Jesus ran for the democratic nomination they would crucify him all over again. Every member of the right wing republican mob in congress would be handing out nails to hammer into a democratic Jesus.
Since Jesus gave food to the hungry, cured the sick and genuinely loved the poor, you can easily make the argument that republicans are anti-Jesus and completely unchristian. Republicans would rather spend trillions on weapons to kill, maim and destroy than spend a dime on the hungry, the sick or the poor.
And since we are talking about money, why do so many Americans believe teachers, nurses and doctors should be paid so little? For a teacher to make what one baseball player makes in a year she would have to work 7500 years without a day off. Republicans 'say' they support teachers but they see no problem plunking down $500 for an evening to see a baseball game, but would never give a dime to a teacher. By the way, in Texas, the average teacher pays out of their pockets at least $1,200 a year to get supplies they need. Texas is ran by republicans who couldn't care less about teachers or anyone who doesn't make at least a million. Republicans are anti-human, anti-Jesus, and anti-life. How anyone could be a republican and support the likes of the mental cripple and corrupt GW Bush defies all comprehension and common sense. Republicans actually believe their slow-witted Bush is a genius. Good Grief! Just how stupid are republicans are they?
BTW, I am a veteran of Vietnam and I deserve to be heard. I am sick of looking at a White House full of war hawk cowards who all avoided serving their country during a time of war. Bush even went AWOL for two years and should have been put in prison for life. But that would have interfered with drinking and doing drugs which he did as an alcoholic for twenty five years. And republicans lap up every drop of drool that falls from Bush's mouth like thirsty, mongrel dogs. God help America, god help purge our country of the disease called 'republicanism', a disease worse than ebola.
they are all forgettable losers. david cook will completly disappear by next year. american idol is a show for gays anyway, it's pathetic
adamas-well put! george bush should have been impeached and hanged years ago. and america the empire is fading fast. on my blog: magicmonkeyfla.livejournal.com i go into all of this and more.
