Tom Petty to play Super Bowl halftime show

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will perform the halftime show at Super Bowl XLII, to be held Feb. 3 at the U. of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.Fox made the announcement in its pregame show Sunday.Variety reports that Petty "has a tough act to follow" in Prince, who performed a stellar show at this year’s NFL championship game.Petty's music was used last year by the NBA during its playoffs.Petty and the Heartbreakers represent the more traditional musician route the NFL is now selecting, choosing more established artists who have a stronger artistic catalog.
