Starz Cinema brings the art-house to your house.
"Coda: Thirty Years After" - the one-hour documentary on the “making of” will premiere exclusively on Starz Cinema, Sunday, December 9th at 6:15pm (ET/PT) with additional airings scheduled thru December to coincide with Sony Pictures Classics’ theatrical release of "Youth Without Youth."
The trials and tribulations of Francis Ford Coppola’s "Youth Without Youth," the director’s first film in ten years, which he also produced and wrote, is documented by his wife Eleanor in "Coda: Thirty Years After."
Based on the novella by Mircea Eliade (a Romanian-born historian and one of the 20th Century’s pre-eminent interpreters of world religion), "Youth Without Youth" stars Tim Roth as an elderly professor, who, after being struck by lightning, miraculously returns to his youth, with a new opportunity to continue his life’s work and rediscover lost love.
The film features Matt Damon, Bruno Ganz and Bucharest native Alexandra Maria Lara.
Coda: Thirty Years After is Eleanor Coppola’s second documentary on her husband’s work.
"Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker’s Apocalypse" (1991) utilized her on-location footage that documented the mountains of problems Francis encountered during the production of "Apocalypse Now." Eleanor also directed "The Making of Marie Antoinette" (2007), a documentary on her daughter Sofia’s film.
"Coda: Thirty Years After" also includes clips from Coppola’s first short film "No Cigar" (1956), behind-the-scenes on "The Rain People" (1969), "The Conversation"(1974), and family home movies.
Filmed in Bucharest, Mr. Coppola calls "Youth Without Youth" a film about “getting into someone’s consciousness” and “a changing tapestry of illusion.”
