MTV has pushed a big pile of money under Lauren Conrad's nose to offset the stench of having to work with nemesis Heidi Montag for season three, who was once her dearest buddy.

The Gods of Reality TV have smote their friendship, with one blonder than blonde dude, Spencer Pratt, who was the catalyst in the decay of their girl-power union.
Now Lauren tells Seventeen magazine she nearly didn't agree to sign on for another scintillating round of sturm und drang in Malibu until the pot was sweetened.
The Laguna Beach native tells Seventeen magazine:
“I actually came dangerously close to not doing season three, because I really didn’t want to do the show with Heidi and Spencer. I’m not who they are. I don’t stage my own publicity. I just kind of live my life and do my job, and I don’t want to be grouped with them.”
MTV convinced Conrad to stick it out. She says, “Heidi and Spencer were always a part of the show, and they can’t all of a sudden make main characters disappear. And so we continue to follow their lives, and the producers keep letting Heidi and Spencer think there’s some hope [that we’ll make up].”
Part of the VH1/MTV familia , Perez Hilton claims that the well compensated Lauren is in for the payday.
"LC is making A LOT of money per episode also probably motivated her return to The Hills. Sources tell us that LC makes way more than Heidi or Audrina. Way more!"
