Isaiah Washington - © Glenn Harris / PhotorazziThe actor, who plays surgeon Dr. Preston Burke on the hit US medical show, was told last week his contract wouldn't be renewed following his anti-gay slur.Washington insists the decision was unfair because he was did everything asked of him when he returned to the set.He told Entertainment Weekly: "I'm saddened by the outcome. I did everything that the producers and the network asked me to do. I came back under great duress and stress, and thought I was doing the job I was hired to do." Washington hasn't heard from many of his former co-stars since the announcement - and doesn't expect to.He said: "Everyone is still on vacation. I don't expect to hear from my cast mates. I did talk to Chandra Wilson and I got a text message from Kate Walsh. Everyone's doing their own thing." The 43-year-old star sparked outrage after reportedly using a homophobic word in reference to co-star T.R. Knight on the set, before repeating the slur at the Golden Globes Awards in January.Cast member Katherine Heigl publicly criticised Washington, forcing him to issue an apology.Heigel, who plays Dr. Izzie Stevens in the show, said: "He made a big mistake, and it was thoughtless and boneheaded, and I think he's very sorry and embarrassed.
